Whitney's Party

Whitney wanted to have a turtle-themed birthday party this year. We made her invitations in the shape of turtles and that's where it all started. We started out the party with some games. First was goin' fishing. The kids sat in a circle with one child in the middle who was blindfolded. The kids passed a fish around the circle while the child in the middle counted to 20. Then whoever had the fish when the counting was done hid it behind his/her back and the child in the middle guessed who had the fish. The next game was a turtle relay race..we split up into two teams and the kids had to crawl on their hands and knees to the other side of the room with a laundry basket on their back *turtle shell*. Next we made a craft-Turtle habitat jars. The kids each got their own toy turtle and decorated jars with foam seaweed-starfish and other fish life to create a little home for their turtle. Then Whitney blew out her candles and everyone enjoyed Turtle cupcakes, gummy sharks and fish and goldfish crackers as treats.

Thanks mom for the turtle mold-the cupcakes turned out so cute!!

Don't rain on my parade...it's my birthday

I came home early from gilrs camp to be home for Whitney's birthday. I did some last minute shopping then took Whitney and Amber out to icecream Friday. When Joe got home from work it was off to the parade an hour early to get the best seats we could-which also meant the dryest ones too-since it was raining. Whitney walked with me to get pizza for dinner and she commented how this was the worst birthday ever because it was raining. I reminded her that not everyone got a parade on their birthday and that seemed to change her mind.

Whenever there was music playing Amber would start dancing-i wish i had recorded the first time she spontaneously busted a move at the parade but this one should give you a good idea how well this girl likes to get her groove on!

After the parade we went home and had Birthday cake and Whitney opened the rest of her presents. She really likes turtles and since I won't get her one for a pet i found a few plastic toy ones that i arranged on top of her cake-She loved it!!One of her favorite presents-A wooden magnet dress up doll set! Grandma got her some deodorant-only when she's this age would she be excited to get that as a birthday present!! lol!! BTW-grandma did get her othe fun pretty things too-like earrings and lip gloss!!

And one last conversation to end with:

Me: I am so excited about one of the presents I am giving you!!

Whitney: Is it a kissing journal?? yeah i am freaking out over that answer but calmly

I reply: No, what is a kissing journal?

Whitney: It's a journal that you kiss when you miss someone.

Relieved I ask: So who told you about a kissing journal?

Whitney: my friend

Me: which friend

Whitney: my invisible one

Me: does she have a name?

Whitney: just Someone-and I can talk to her whenever I want to.

Great name for an invisible friend I just learned that she had-who I guess tells her about kissing journals-thankfully not the same kind I was thinking of.

1. What was your favorite active game as a child?
I liked double dutch/four square in second grade-then wallball/sports after that. We had some pretty snobby tetherball players at my school-so i didn't want to play that very much. Does chasing boys count??

2. What was your favorite board game as a child? Clue and pictionary

3. Tell us about a friend you played these games with in your youth. I didn't really play these games with any of my friends-mostly my family at reunions.

4. What is your favorite card game? Between Golf and Spoons-both are fun.

5. What board games do you enjoy now? Apples to Apples, Taboo,Scattegories I like to play candyland and chutes and ladders with my kids. I heard ticket to ride is a really fun one-I have yet to play it though.

6. Do you play video games? Which ones? I play our nintendo wii sports/wii fit games

7. Tell us about the friends you play games with now. Pretty much my family and an occasional friend who I force to play on her birthday ...lol, I don't know how you can get that many gutter balls in bowling C.-but it was a fun!!!

8. Do you play any sports now? no-wish i did though.

9. What’s your favorite sport to watch? college basketball or softball.

Super Mommy saves the Day

Okay here is proof that small miracles happen every day. I was walking down my hallway when something shiny caught my eye. On closer examination I found it was a needle that had got stuck in the carpet. HOW did that get there??? More importantly, I am thankful it caught my attention and I was able to remove a potentially dangerous item in my home. I don't even want to imagine if one of my kids had found it before me..Maybe I am more paranoid then most people about needles-since I once fell on one and it went all the way in my knee-not fun. My arm was so sore the next day from that tet. shot.

So Wednesday night means So you think you can dance night. Because I am at mutual, I get to watch SYTYCD on youtube the next day to see what i missed out on the night before. Last night was the first night the top 20 danced and here are my favorite routines:

Hip Hop routine with Philipp and Jeanine -LOVE this-it is up there with Bleeding Love from last year as one of my all time favorite dances yet. T&N now my favorite choreographers.
Contemporary with Melissa and ADe--so so so BEAUTIFUL
SAMBA withKayla and Max--Great rhythm--love her dress-AMAZING.
FOXTROT with Janette and Brandon- one word ELEGANT

Next were Evan and Randi's contemporary-and Kaitlyn and Josh's Bollywood routines they were delightful -I liked them both-but weren't my favorites.
Then the Cha cha routine-was fun but the girls could have been sharper-would have been awesome had he had a different partner. The other routines were forgettable. I cannot wait for more--LOVE this tv show-it is my favorite.

Last Day of School and Award!!

Whitney's last day of school was today and she recieved a Citizenship award for the school year. She will have her name engraven on a plaque that hangs up in the front of the school. She reveived a school pin and a gift certificate to Little Ceasars pizza. We are so proud of her for working so hard through the year to be a great student and a kind and caring classmate!!!

Crazy Old navy ....the wait was worth it.!!

Okay so some of my friends and familiy thought I was crazy because I was stationed at my computer all night Saturday and most of the day Sunday to try and find the tricky $75 off $100 purchase at Old Navy Coupon. Well guess what?? I snagged one and went with my family today to get some shorts for the girls, a pair for myself, and jeans for Joe. My total before the coupon was $113. After the coupon: $7.41. WHAT???!!! I guess these coupons are ringing up as $100 off (before taxes too) instead of $75 off and there isn't a way for the cashier to override it..so I was super ecstatic to get such a deal. My family very much needed the clothes and I still can't believe how lucky I was to get them all for $1 an item. Still freakin' out about it!! SO COOL!!!
