Before or After Baby Shower

Okay so here is yet another subject I want to question you all about. My very dear friend is throwing me a baby shower and I asked her to wait until after the baby is born to hold it. My reasons are ofcourse that if it is a boy i will be in need of clothing for him and also if it's a girl-I will definitely turn it into a diaper/needs shower. I know that I could do a neutral shower beforehand-but I am thinking if it is a girl-I wouldn't want people to waste money to buy me clothes-when I have tons already and would much prefer them to get me things that will be more useful to me and new baby. With that said-I have to admit that even knowing what all three of my girls were before they were born, my baby showers for each of them were after they were born. I am not one to closet myself away with baby for a good month before going out in public-so it was nice to bring baby with me so everyone could hold her while I enjoyed the fun company and opened gifts. I am curious what you all prefer-would you rather have baby shower before or after the baby was born and what are your reasons??

Personally, I cannot stand not feeling like I am totally prepared and have been buying everything left and right instead of waiting for my shower. However, your situation is totally different than mine and I think it would be more fun to have gender specific things and you probably have most of your true essentials from your other three kids, so I would wait to have the shower if I were in your situation.

I would wait until after the baby is born for all the reasons you listed. Good luck!

With Peyton I had it after he was born, but I gotta be honest, I hate baby showers and think they are stupid. If someone wants to give me a gift then fine, but I don't need a party.

I love your response Angie! I had my shower AFTER McKay was born for the very reason you're wanting your after. I didn't know the sex! :) With that said, I was prepared. I picked a neutral crib set, onesies, etc. So I was prepared for baby when he/she was brougt home. I also had purchased my own boy/girl stuff for the first little while and kept receipts for what I didn't need or use. So I'd wait, too. You can get by for a few weeks with what you have, even if it's a boy! They make plenty of yellow, white, green stuff! Plus I had people bring things to the hospital for gifts, and so that was nice, too.

Okay Arin I am totally blog stalking you:) I would wait until after the baby is born for a couple reasons. How much funner is a baby shower when you actually get to see the baby! #2 since you don't know what it is you could get a lot of things you really don't need especially if it is a GIRL like you said. Even if you do have a boy is all you need is a couple sleepers to get you by until your shower. You can always buy a few boy things and return them if you have to. As far as being prepared goes I don't know if you use a bassinett at the beginning but if you do then that would eliminate having to have a boy crib sheet set because you wouldn't need that for a few weeks anyway. Then if you have a girl, perfect have a diaper shower. That is what they did for me this time, we didn't know what we were having either but because we have a boy and girl we didn't need any clothing. Can I just tell you that diapers are great too! Brayden is 4 1/2 months old and I have only had to buy 2 packages of diapers because I was given so many. Now that I have written you a book, DO WHATEVER YOU WANT:)!!
I am excited to hear what you are having.

Even diapers can be tricky-since Whitney was so long and skinny she wore newborn size for the first 3 months-so with Amber we started stocking up on diapers-but out the little 8 pounder came and outgrew the diapers within two weeks-plus she was never able to wear Whitney's newborn clothing-so it's kindof funny how you never really know what you have will work or no.

For you...I would wait!! In my case...we do "girls night out baby showers" so it's kinda nice to not have to deal with a newborn in a restaurant. Either way...I am glad someone is doing a shower for you...even if it IS another girl!!
