How do you clean?

So while I was doing some of my regular house cleaning-I started to wonder if I am a bit old fashioned in how I clean my home. This train of thought came to me as I was cleaning my bathroom-I usually use comet or ajax to clean about everything but the mirror (which I use ammonia on-I usually do all mirrors and windows a different day than the day I clean the bathrooms because of the bleach in comet/ajax). And I was wondering if anyone else does the same or is everyone using the "new" cleaners out there-like lysol disinfecting wipes or those toilet bowl brushes that are one time use-then you flush it down the toilet. I have to admit I was thinking similar thoughts when mopping my tile in my kitchen/dining rooms the other day as well-I use Mr. Clean and a regular mop-but I was also pondering if those swiffer wet mops work well on tile -or are they too costly to continue buying all the refills-etc. So now that you know some of the ways I clean my house-what are the ways you clean your house and what have you found cleans best or is easiest or less time consuming??? Please share-with a new baby coming-I really would be interested in other options.

What a great idea for a post! Everyone can use ideas for making cleaning easier... I tried the swiffer mop, didn't think it did as good of a job, but not bad. I keep mine with a small package of wipes for "quick cleanups". Like tonight when I just mopped several hours ago and milk got spilled at dinner. I didn't want to pull the mop out again, so I just pull out the swiffer. Not really that necessary in my opinion though. I only use the disinfecting wipes for touchups to. Love them though. I get a little OCD when other people use our bathrooms, especially kids because there are just too many nasty germs spread through bathrooms, so after they come out, I give it a good wipe down, without having to scrub the whole bathroom down. My mother-in-law gave me a steam mop not long after we got married and I LOVE it! Especially because I have hard wood floors and you aren't supposed to use cleaners on them, but I still feel like the floors are getting sanitized. And it works great on grout with my tile floors! Should I keep going? This seems like such boring stuff... The one thing I do like is the Clorox wand for the toilet. I didn't think I would, but my mom couldn't find my toilet brush when she came to take care of my kids while I was in the hospital, so she bought one and it cleans great and I love not having to store a nasty toilet brush. The heads go in the garbage on you're done! O.k. I'll stop with that. Great post though!

I think of this I think every time I clean when I get to think while doing it! I use those Lysol disinfecting wipes on a lot of stuff! Most of my bathroom except windex and comet for the tub / shower...Then for the kitchen i use a lot of 409 which I think is old fashioned but do wipe stuff down with lysol wipes again..just feels like I get rid of more germs as you know they are easily spread! I use a mop that is plastic but has a cloth thing you put on and then can wash it...I used to have a swiffer and didn't like it and then it broke but I know people love the shark steam mop...$$ spendy! Might be good for the tile...I have laminate so I wring out my mop attachment pretty good too...Toilets I use those wands. So i get to throw the nasty thing away when I am done and my kids LOVE to use them and turn the water blue and scrub! And they use the Lysol wipes and clean the walls, counter, and anything else they think of!! Good luck!!

I'm pretty old fashioned too. I think ajax works great! However, when I have the kids clean the bathrooms (which they are doing more) I have them use a spray like clorox for bathrooms or lysol bathroom cleaner because I think it's easier for them and they don't end up dumping all the ajax in one spot. We just use rags to clean. I do have some disinfectant wipes in each bathroom, but that is more for quick cleaning. I don't feel they do as good of a job as the "old" way. With 3 boys in the house we quick clean the toilet and floor around it a lot. As for swiffers, I have one, but have not been super impressed by it. It is more for quick cleaning. It certainly couldn't handle a big puddle without having to change the pad at least once, but it is nice for quick spot cleaning. One trick I learned for getting off really hard soap scum is Mr. Clean magic erasers. I thought they just worked on walls, but they do a great job on the bathtub when it's really grimy. Hope this helps!

Love the comments as I am doing some major cleaning!! I am an old fashioned kinda gal....I think it is where we are from!!! I cannot imagine spending tons of money on fancy cleaners and convenience...BUT with that being said...I agree with the disinfecting wipes. Perfect for just a quick wipe down. Like if company is unexpected coming real quick or just left or a meat juice spill or a quick wipe down. I keep a container under the sink in bathrooms and kitchen. AJAX is cheap and is my best friend along with ammonia. I buy other cleaners when I have coupons and can get them really cheap. Other than that, I am a simple kinda gal. One handy convenient newer item that I adore has also been mentioned--Mr. CLEAN ERASER. It reaslly is MAGICAL and i love that thing!

I have a shark steam mop and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. It was 70 something bucks, but I had a gift card--so I believe it was free:) If you hold it over a really gross stuck on food item on the floor--it steams it to death and it comes right off--LOVE IT!! I also use scrubbing bubbles action scrubber for my showers. It is a green foamish handle that has velcro on. Then you velcro refill pads to it and scrub away. I have never found anything to clean showers so easily. Not cheap though:( I don't clean my showers very often though, so it doesn't cost me TOO much:) Other than that I use magic eraser like a crazy person and clorox anywhere bleach spray on EVERYTHING!!! Happy Cleaning!!
